This benchmark is located in the southwest corner of the Newberry Caldera Junction on Hwy 97 about 100 feet west of the highway centerline. The cap was set by the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey in 1931 and is stamped S62. There is a orange marker post nearby.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1934 6.2 MI NE FROM LAPINE. 6.2 MILES NORTHEAST ALONG THE DALLES- CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY FROM LAPINE, DESCHUTES COUNTY, AT MILEAGE 165.5, 15 FEET SOUTHWEST OF A ROAD TO THE WEST AT THE NORTH END OF PAULINA PRAIRIE, 98 FEET WEST OF THE HIGHWAY CENTERLINE, IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. A STANDARD DISK STAMPED 4203.417 S62 1931.

A NEW DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS. 9.9 KM (6.15 MI) NORTHERLY ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 97 FROM THE POST OFFICE IN LAPINE, 10.1 M (33.1 FT) WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 10.1 M (33.1 FT) SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER OF A PAVED ROAD LEADIING NORTHWEST, 0.6 M (2.0 FT) SOUTHEAST OF UTILITY POLE NUMBER L 4, 0.6 M (2.0 FT) BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE HIGHWAY, 0.3 M (1.0 FT) SOUTHWEST OF A WITNESS POST, AND IN TOP OF A CONCRETE POST THAT IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND SURFACE.
