Ljudevit Gaj (1809-1872) was the central person of the Croatian national reformation of the 19th century known as Illyrian Movement. He was active as linguist, politician, journalist and writer. Ljudevit Gaj is regarded as political ideologist, organizer and the leader of the national reformation. In 1930 he published the book "Brief Basics of the Croatian-Slavonic Orthography", which was the first common Croatian orthography book. In 1833 he wrote the poem "Još Hrvatska ni propala" ("Croatia is not in ruin yet"), one of the most popular poems of that time.
