The North Main/Bank Street Historic District encompasses almost the entire historic central business district in Albion. The Village of Albion is located about halfway between Buffalo and Rochester in rural Orleans County. For most of its history, Albion was Orleans County's foremost community, rivaled only by nearby Medina. As such, the entire village is distinguished by sophisticated architecture, most of which survives with a high degree of integrity of design, materials, and craftsmanship.
The district is homogeneous in character, with Italiante and late Victorian eclectic style, attached commercial rows predominating. Most buildings are three stories in height and feature symmetrical fenestration and are constructed of brick or rough hewn random ashlar Medina sandstone. Although many storefronts have been altered, the upper floors remain mostly intact. The buildings date from circa 1827 to circa 1930.
