The Rockford Morning Star Building was constructed in 1927 as the new headquarters for the newspaper, "Rockford Morning Star". The building only served in that capacity for five years when the newspaper merged with "The Register Republic" and became the "Rockford Register Star." The building was designed by the architectural firm of Clausen, Kruse & Klein of Davenport, Iowa, who specialized in the design of newspaper headquarters that the time. The building with Art Deco influences was designed to support additional floors if needed with a foundation of pilings driven nearly 50 feet into the earth.
After the newspaper merger, the building was leased by Pioneer Life Insurance Company, the insurance company purchased the building in 1946 and continued to use the building 1996 when they sold the building. The building has since been renovated and is used by a bank and for professional offices.
