One June 1, 1796, Tennessee became the 16th state to join the Union. In 1996 communities throughout the state celebrated Tennessee’s Bicentennial. Part of Sullivan County’s celebration was placing this time capsule on the grounds of the county courthouse, which will be opened in 2096.
