I remember shortly after the name change in 1970, there was a grand opening. Ronald McDonald stood at then end of the sidewalk, next to the one-lane Rt. 70 highway. There, he greeted all the children, shook hands and took pictures. My picture is gone but the memories remain. Ronald McDonald was played by none other than local celebrity and weatherman Willard Scott.

Over the years, it went from a one-room restaurant to a larger one-room restaurant, than to a sitting room, then to two sitting rooms than to three sitting rooms with larger restrooms. We watched this place expand at least four times. Finally in the 90s, the original structure was completely gone and the one you see today remains, about 30 feet further away from the highway.

Today, there is a single child's arcade/computer station and an enormous indoor play station with planets, moons and other important firmament particulars displayed, hanging from the ceiling. The drive through is open 74/7. They take the Arch card and are cashless. The have an account with Bucks County coffee. They offer specialty, off-menu sandwiches which are pretty darn delicious. They also sell speciality desserts, cookies and other interesting food items.

And now, my top ten favorite memories of our local McDonalds:

10 Watching the sign change from thousands served to one hundred thousand served to eventually, a million served. Eventually it was billions and billions served and then they just stopped counting.

9. The way the receipt was placed inside the cheeseburger wrapper.

8. Dinner after little league games. Sitting with Dad.

7. Reciting "Two whole beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame bun" with in 30 seconds and being given a red t-shirt with a picture and explanation of the newly introduced Big Mac. Singing the same song. I still have that shirt.

6. Meeting Ronald McDonalds, holding my Mom's hand.

5. Riding my Schwinn 5-Speed Orange Krate to buy lunch in the summer time and then walking next door to Mr. Lee's 7-11, playing asteroids and buying a cherry Slurpee. The 7-11 is gone and is now a parking lot.

4. Using the drive-through for the first time.

3. Taking my first girlfriend out for lunch in 1977. Her name was Jackie. There were a few tables on the side so we sat and ate and then, of course, got Slurpees.

2. Climbing on and playing with the Grimace and Hamburglar statues which are long gone.

1. Sitting with my son.
