Atsion Village played an important part of our country's revolutionary history, becoming a successful iron producing town in the late 1700. But, by 1820, Read faced foreclosures proceedings on the land and business. By 1824, Samuel Richard reopen the furnace, and Atsion hits its highest production levels.
The lake provided the necessary water power and cooling for the iron producing. The State of New Jersey purchased the lake and surrounding lands in 1954, opening a great recreational park on this site.
Now, Atsion Lake offers visitors swimming, canoeing, kayaking and more.
