This lone chimney stands between an abandoned house on one side and a barn on the other on Railroad Grade Road in this quiet rural area.

It looks as if a cabin sat here overlooking the New River at some time in the no so recent past. Across the country lane would probably have been a kitchen garden for the homestead.

Railroad Grade gets its name from the fact that it follows the old Virginia Creeper Railroad Line. The width of this road is the same as the original rail line. Cars pull over when they pass each other so that each has clearance.
