Franklin Square at one time was Syracuse's premier industrial district before it fell into a state of almost irreversible repair. The area has witnessed a resurgence and is now home to an ever increasing number of restaurants and lofts. The Franklin Square Park is located in the center of this district and features a bronze statue of Franklin atop a polished stone pedestal. The park also includes many flowering trees, shrubs, large water fountain, with benches all around. The stone pedestal has the following words engraved on it: Benjamin Franklin,
1706-1790, scientist, scholar, diplomat, inventor, patriot, philosopher,
printer and publisher. The builders of the park even went so far as to place engraved blocks in the steps leading to the park, these blocks have phrases or statements known to be spoken by Franklin. One such quote goes like this: "Three men can keep a secret; as long as two of them are dead".
