College founded 1878 as Sitka Industrial & Training School, to provide training for Alaska native peoples. The named was changed in 1910 to honour Rev. Sheldon Jackson, a missionary & teacher.
The school occupies a lovely piece of land with a nice view of the harbour and mountains. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Site.
Apparently the shool has a history of financial problems, and it is currently closed and boarded up. The website is off-line.
