When trying to find information about Kevin Sterne and his Eagle Scout project I was surprised to discover that Kevin Sterne was the name of the Eagle Scout from the pictures after the Virginia Tech Shootings in the spring of 2007. Kevin's picture became a symbol of what had occurred on Campus that afternoon and his story was shared with the world. You know the picture I mean...the one where 4 officers each are holding a limb of a young man and carrying him to safety.

Kevin had been shot that afternoon and his quick thinking saved his life as he tied an electrical cord around his thigh to stop the bloodflow. If this is indeed the same Kevin Sterne, he was a member of troop 1313 out of Washington County and hailed from Eighty Four. Kevin Dolinar, his scoutmaster, said Mr. Sterne's training as a Boy Scout and then as an Eagle Scout played a central role in his survival. The practice is to not use a tourniquet, unless it's a last resort. You first apply direct pressure to the wound and then if the bleeding does not stop you use a tourniquet." Kevin knew this was a life-threatening matter and did what he had to!

Visit Kevin's Eagle Scout project and sit in the shade for a moment and reflect. If you have any information about his project or find out that it is indeed a different Kevin Sterne, please let me know.
