Heading through the old stagecoach roads in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, this painted turtle was taking a leisurely stroll across Buckingham Whiting Road.

This section of the road crosses over a good running creek, and this turtle was attempting, ever so slowly, to cross the road and get to the pond on the other side.

I had Gordie stop the truck before we got too close...and we helped him all the way across...

This is a great example of an Eastern Painted Turtle.
