Long Description:[FR] Le prince de Soubise a profondément modifié l’édifice qui
datait de la Renaissance. Il redécore la façade et les intérieurs
dans le style Louis XVI (en vogue de 1755 à 1780 environ, il fait
suite à la découverte de Pompéï).
La façade, entièrement modifiée dans un style assez sobre et très
élégant, est ornée d’un balcon supporté par deux colonnes aux
chapiteaux doriques, elles-mêmes encadrées par deux bossages de
pierre typiques du style Louis XVI (voir la place de la Concorde, à
Paris). La porte d’entrée, en plein cintre, présente un tympan
garni de bas-reliefs. La fenêtre d’honneur, ouvrant sur le balcon,
est surmontée d’une guirlande végétale tombante. Les toitures sont
garnies de lucarnes au fronton triangulaire, d’œils de bœuf ovales
surmontés de guirlandes et d’un bas-relief en pierre présentant lui
aussi une guirlande.
Les façades, les toitures et les décors intérieurs du vestibule
d’honneur, du salon d’honneur, de la salle à manger et du grand
salon du château de Roberval ont été inscrits à l’Inventaire
Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques en 1993.
On voie le chateau sur le cote droite du viaduc en prenant
l'autoroute A1 en direction de province juste apres l'aire de repos
de Roberval.
Le chateau ne se visite pas.
[EN] The prince of Soubise made major modifications to the
structure which dated from the Renaissance period. He redecorated
the facade and the interior in the Louis XVI style (which was in
vogue between approximately 1755 and 1780 following the discovery
of Pompei).
The facade, completely modified in a very elegant and sober style,
is decorated by a balcony supported by two columns with doric
capitals which are themselves framed by two projecting ornamental
stone decorations typical of the Louis XVI style (see the Place de
la Concorde in Paris). The front door, in the middle of an arch,
presents a tympanum garnished with bas-relief sculptures. The
window of honor, which opens over the balcony, is draped with a
floral garland. The roof is decorated with dormer windows with
triangular pediments, oval bull's eye windows draped in garlands,
and a stone bas-relief which also presents a garland.
The facade and the roof were registered with the Supplementary
Inventory of historical monuments in 1993.
The castle is particulary noticeable on the right hand side of
the viaduct when travelling the A1 motorway north from Paris and is
located just north of the Roberval rest area.
The castle is not open to visitors.
