[FR] La gare de Strasbourg a été inaugurée le 15 août 1883, sur les plans de l'architecte berlinois Johann Jacobsthal, et remplaça dès lors la gare d'origine, en cul-de-sac et trop exigüe. Cette gare, construite par les autorités allemandes, est située au carrefour des grands axes internationaux Paris-Vienne et Bâle-Cologne, sur le terrain des anciennes fortifications de Vauban.
Pour préparer l'arrivée du TGV Est en juin 2007, la gare a été profondément transformée avec notamment l'installation d'une verrière qui couvre l'ensemble de la facade de la gare.
[EN] The Strasbourg train station was inaugurated on August 15, 1883. It was built according to the plans of the Berlin architect Johann Jacobsthal, and replaced the original station which was too small. This station, constructed by the German authorities, is situated at the crossroads of international rail travel between Paris and Vienna and Basel and Cologne.
In preparation for the arrival of the TGV Est in June of 2007, the station was profoundly transformed with the installation of a glass shell which covers the facade of the station.
