Long Description:
Music in Plymouth was born over 35 years ago in 1972, on a vacant
lot behind McQuay International in the Minneapolis Industrial Park.
Mayor Al Hilde, Jr. and the Plymouth City Council formed a citizen
committee (the Plymouth Civic League [PCL]) to bring a free concert
of the Minnesota Orchestra to Plymouth.
The purpose of the committee was to focus on community spirit in
a sleepy suburb. Plymouth has continued to grow dramatically and to
this day the PCL remains a nonprofit organization which annually
sponsors and presents Music in Plymouth.
This proud tradition now draws over 15,000 people to the Hilde
Performance Center for a completely free-of-charge evening of music
under the stars. While Music in Plymouth serves as a showcase for
local groups, the evening's centerpiece is a performance by the
Minnesota Orchestra. The festive day is renowned for its grand
finale - spectacular fireworks set to music.
This event takes place each year during the week of July 4th,
but never on the 4th itself. This year's event takes place on July
2nd, and previous events have ranged from June 30th to July 8th -
