The origin of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom dates back to July 1968 when the park started as an oceanarium in Redwood Shores, California called "Marine World". Falling into bankruptcy, Marine World was purchased in 1972 and renamed "Marine World Africa USA" after merging with a failing animal park. Rising property values in Redwood Shores forced the park to look for a new home and in 1986 the park moved to a new facility in Vallejo, California.

This 136 acre park is filled with attractions. It is more than a regular theme park but features an animal park, a thrill-ride park, and a marine park all in one. A more detailed history and detailed list of rides and attractions can be found at Wikepedia:.
