This entire area is designated a National Historic Landmark. The area is beautiful. In front and to the left of the lagoon and fountain is a cupola. If you look over your shoulder you will also notice the town clock towering above the park.

The wildlife in the lagoon was dedicated in June of 1998 by the Knights of Columbus Bristol Council 906. There is also a plaque just in front of the lagoon and fountain which read, "The citizens of Bristol Borough proudly dedicated this plaque in honor of State Representative Tom Corrigan in appreciation of his forty years of exemplary government service. November 11, 2006; Delaware Canal Lagoon.

The Delaware Canal was built to bring coal to Philadelphia-Area markets. Construction began in 1827. It ceased operating in 1931. The Canal became a State Park in 1940.
