In the early 80s, when Salem was converting most of a former Boise Cascade plant into a riverfront recreation area, one of the plans was for a carousel of the classic style. The hope was for every horse to be of a unique style, and to house on site a fabrication and repair shop. Requests for donations went out, and the whole project was a resounding success. The donors are commemorated on a strip which runs the length of the building.
