About 3 feet South West of the SW corner street sign for Templeton Gap Rd and Columbine Blvd. In some bushes trimmed to the level of the benchmark at the edge of a triangular-shaped residential property, across the street from a medical office complex.
The name of this monument is difficult to determine. It has altitude 6197 [feet] stamped onto it. I also has the number 13 stamped after some other numbers that look stamped out.
Templeton Gap Road was the major road leading from downtown Colorado Springs, going in a direct diagonal North East, leading into an area known as Black Forrest. It was known to follow a natural stream valley for sections. As the town has grown, this road has been cut off and in some cases taken over by a number of other major streets. So the road itself is no longer contiguous. You will find it dead ends a number of places, then continues some distance past a major street. One of the first places this happens, heading North-East, is just about .2 mile north at Union Blvd.
This monument was probably placed when the road was whole, and this was a spot, perhaps a mile-mark, along the route.
