From the Badwater parking area it's a little over 3 mile hike (one-way) to the lowest spot in Death Valley National Park. Once you are past the trampled area at Badwater you will find the polygonal salt shapes are constantly changing. About every quarter mile it will change. Some areaa have small vs. large salt ridges. Some are perfectly smooth and other areas look like they are covered with popcorn size crystals. After a hike out to the low spot of -282' you will not think of it as a flat desolate expanse.
