At the turn of the century, an interurban electric railway called The Aurora, Elgin and Chicago streaked across the prairie farmland. It linked Chicago to the far western suburbs. Villa Park was about a midway point. The rail line ceased operation in 1957.
An active historical society enabled Villa Park to have the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railroad station placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The old rails were removed in 1962 and eventually converted to trails now known as the Illinois Prairie Path, a national Historic Trail. Great for biking!
