At the turn of the century, an interurban electric railway called The Aurora, Elgin and Chicago streaked across the prairie farmland. It linked Chicago to the far western suburbs. Villa Park was about a midway point.
An active historical society enabled Villa Park to have the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railroad station placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The old rails were converted to trails now known as the Illinois Prairie Path, a national Historic Trail.
