If you travel along the Red Line of the T, one of the stops is Kendall/MIT. This stop was named after a company that operated near this location.

The following is from the Kendall Boiler and Tank Co., site:

The company, started as Kendall & Davis, was established by Edward Kendall in 1880 (though they say they were established in 1860). At one time, they were located on Main Street where Broadway joins it, near the Longfellow Bridge. Today, this junction is known as Kendall Square.

The company moved to the corner of Third and Broadway Streets (no mention of what year). There, they expanded, occupying several buildings. Today, the company still exists, but they have moved to a smaller location in Chelmsford, MA.

Their web site is here: (visit link) .

Today, the buildings have been refitted into a mixture of residential and commercial use. The corner building still bears the company name that was there.

The painted sign is on two sides of the building. The one on Binney Street says "Kendall Boiler and Tank Co." - Then in a white arrow, "Enter 275 Third St.". The other side aslo bears the company name but has "Welding" "Stacks" and other products that it could produce.
