Fairlawn Steakhouse - Greenville, Ohio - Steakhouses on Waymarking.com

Located right across the street from the Great Darke County Fairgrounds. I visited this place a lot when I was young. My mother ran "grass-roots" campaigns for local and state Democrats in the 1970's. I remember tagging along to suppers here at the Fairlawn while the grown-ups talked about campaign funding and strategy. I was so proud of my mom- to me she looked like Elizabeth Taylor with her blue eyes and red lipstick and -always the pearls.
I was happy to snuggle back in the vinyl booth and sip a real cherry coke in a cold clear glass. I remember they served the best mashed potatoes with the gravy ladled in the circle perfectly.
The decor at the time was what you'd expect if Desi and Lucy had a favorite steakhouse. Smoky, dark, mood lighting. Prints and colors- olive green, browns, tans right out of the late 50's and early 60's. The clink of the silverware and the glasses. The hum of the conversation. Not faddish like you see on TV today depicting that era- but the real stuff.
I see on the Internet that the Fairlawn does a lot of catering in Greenville now with business meeting at the convention center and the big Kitchen aid plant north of town.
I'll stop and have dinner there this summer and post an update on the old place.
