The bridge was widened in 1887, only to be severely damaged after the storms of September 1966 after 5 inches of rain in an hour, and then have the walls rebuilt. It has 15 foot span with 6 ft 4 ins between parapets. It is on the packhorse route from Seathwaite over Sty Head Pass to Wasdale. This route was considered for upgrade to road capable of carrying wheeled coaches.
Grains Gill flows out of Sprinkling Tarn to eventually pass under the bridge.

Parking on the side of the access road to Seathwaite Farm. Toilets and payphone at farm.
