The church which is on a hill can be accessed by road, stairs or funicular.

"The funicular Outeiro da Glória, opened in 1942, has been modernised by the Prefeitura in 2003. A panoramic elevator, as promised, was not installed, but new cars, new rails and a new drive, and the track bed that supports the rails was rebuilt."
