The plaque reads

Near here, in 1834,
Samuel Gillilan and wife Margaret,
made their home
to become the first white settlers in
McHenry County.
 
Erected by
McHenry County Historic Society
September 1967

The marker is located in the Village of Algonquin Cemetery.
