Long Description:This giant stack of books marks the entrance to what was at one
time "Never Never Land", a fairy tale themed area within Point
Defiance Park. At one time Humpty Dumpty was perched atop these
books, however he no longer welcomes visitors. (Check out

target="_blank">Webpage for a photo showing Humpty Dumpty on the
books) When the fairy tale land opened in the 1960's there were
over 100 fiberglass figures. On our visit we only saw the ruins of
4 fairy tales: this one - Humpty Dumpty, The Old Woman who Lived in
a Shoe, Hickory Dickory Dock, and Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod's
boat.
It was sad to visit. I still remember wandering the trails as a
little girl and the delight of walking through the forest and
discovering fairy tales come to life around every corner. Sadly,
due to vandalism the parks department has demolished most of the
area and added a few picnic tables and some playground equipment as
a replacement.
