This weapon features a .45 caliber barrel with a large chamber to accommodate base bleed ammunition which enables ranges up to 39,600 meters (43,300 yds). Other ammunition includes all standard NATO rounds for this caliber, as well as the enhanced range and accuracy projectiles. A semi-automatic breech mechanism is served by a pneumatic rammer. There is a quick release in the traversing gear which brings the barrel from the traveling position to firing position in only a few seconds. When limbered, the weapon will follow in the tracks of the towing vehicle through use of a steering device.

Many of these weapons came to Iraq via Jordan and were used on both sides of the Iran-Iraq war. Seven were captured during Operation Desert Storm and this example was brought to Fort Sill by the 212th Field Artillery Brigade.
