In the center of the village the SULLIVAN MONUMENT commemorates the Sullivan expedition (1779) and the erection of Fort Cummings at the foot of Honeoye Lake.

This monument is now located next to the parking lot of the Honeoye Public Library. The monument has two sides. First side reads:
Routes of the Armies of
General John Sullivan
and
General James Clinton
1779
An expedition against the hostile Indian
Nations which checked the aggressions of
the English and Indians on the frontiers
of New York and Pennsylvania extending
westward the dominion of the United States
Side two reads:
Fort Cummings
General John Sullivan and his
army of continental troops
encamped at the foot of Honeoye
Lake September 11, 1779.
He left here stores, baggage and
artillery. The "sick, lame and lazy"
and 50 men under Captain John N.
Cummings, 300 men in all. The
garrison strengthed an Indian
blockhouse with kegs, boxes and
bags of flour and held the Fort
till the return of the expedition
from Genesee Castle and the
march eastward September 18, 1779.
