This kind of signage might make a New Hampshire motorist turn around and go back. After crossing the Connecticut River, about 200 ft more, you encounter two sets of signs.

The first set of signs is as follows:

Junction - US 5 and Vermont Route 142 -- U.S. 5 is Main Street that runs north-south through downtown Brattleboro. Vermont 142 starts at this intersection and runs south.

End - Vermont 119 -- This might be the shortest state route in Vermont. It runs the 200 feet from the bridge to the intersection and is an extention of New Hampshire 119.

Other Road Signs --
-While you are reading the signs, make sure you are in the right lane (but you don't know what lane you should be in until you read the second set of signs) - one false move and you could be heading in a completely different direction than intended.
-Good thing the speed limit is 25 - I don't know how I would be able to read all this and stop 50 feet later at a higher speed.
-Then if you still have time to read the signs, there is the warning about the $100 fine for littering.
-Then to make sure they have your attention on such an important matter, IN RED is the warning about NO overnight parking on any street.

The second set of signs is as follows:

North - US 5, To Vermont 9 and Vermont 30 (with arrows) -- Route 9 is about two blocks north. I'm not sure where Route 30 intersects.

South (1) - US 5 To I-91 -- I-91 surrounds Brattleboro. This is one of three possible exits, so I applaud them for not giving you more options. The direction arrow is a diagonal left (so is that straight or left on the previous sign??).

South (2) - Vermont 142 -- This is a hard left.

By the way, this intersection has no traffic light.

And, if you do get confused and end up in an accident at this location, you do have directions to the hospital.

Good luck!
