Today the Unitarian Church in Ann Arbor is a modern building on the outskirts of town. But in 1882, the congregation built their church at the corner of Huron and State. A parsonage followed two years later. The Unitarians moved out in 1946 and the Grace Bible Church moved in, staying until 1965. It was used as an informal recreation center, and remained virtually vacant for a decade. The Hobbs & Black Architectural firm purchased the building in the mid 1980's. They also rescued a piece of history buried in the walls. A large stained glass panel of an ascending angel holding an infant was found tucked away in one of the walls Hobbs & Black removed. It turned out to be an original Tiffany, copyright 1900. Installed to commemorate the loss of a child in the 1890s, the window had been boarded over in the 1930's and forgotten when the building was sold. Hobbs and Black had the window restored by Tiffany experts and it graces the east wall of their reception room. Entrance is on the southwest corner of building. You can see the angel from the outside using the alley on the west side of the building.
