Built in 1851-1853, these are the first railroad tunnels west of the Mississippi River.

This abandoned railroad tunnel is on the grounds of the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri. The tunnel was originally 450 feet long but shortened in 1929 to 410 feet. These tunnels are on the National Register of Historic Places.
