The Air Force removed all radar equipment and left the buildings and facilities for Boulder City use. This abandoned radar site is a present-day VORTAC facility according to information posted on the
Air Defense Radar Museum website.
The area leading up to the radar site is now the Bootleg Canyon Mountain Bike Park and is located about 45 minutes southeast of Las Vegas. We drove up to the gates of the former radar facility and have posted the GPSr coordinates as well as photos we took from that location. However, you can only see a portion of the new VORTAC facility from the gates, so we've also posted photos we took on the drive up Red Mountain.
According to waymarker jiggs11, "This was actually a unit of the now closed Las Vegas AFS. The site was slaved to Las Vegas, and closed in 1961 when Las Vegas upgraded to the then-new Semi-automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) system, part of overall North American Air Defence."
