The four students were convinced there was a cavern system under the natural limestone bridge, for which the area bears name. A cool draft coming from the ground, tipped them to the spot, where they were able to enter, and explore 2.5 miles into the earth. The first 1/2 mile is now a tour of natural wonders!
Formed by underground rivers, this cavern system includes one of the largest chamber rooms in Texas. With ceilings over 100 feet in some areas, the display of stalagmites and stalagtites are even more dramatic.
Natural Bridge Caverns was added to the Natural National Landmarks listing in October of 1971.
