Campbell River BC and Port Alberni BC have always touted themselves as the 'Salmon Capital of the World' and both have a legitimate claim to that as both have some of the best fishing for the BIG (50Lbs+) salmon in Canada. The 'Gateway..' slogan is fairly new.
