Whipple Dam State Park, south of State College, PA is a popular day use park for picnicking, swimming, fishing, and wildlife watching, which has a rich history.
The buildings in the park were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and represent one of the most important federal building programs brought about President Roosevelt after the Great Depression. They also represent unprecedented cooperation between state and federal programs, as the buildings were constructed on state-owned lands.
A more detailed history of the park can be read at the attached website.
As a day use district, this park can be visited year-round, from dawn to dusk.
