The sign next to the topiary reads:
"Our topiary timepiece features a spiral sheared Arborvitae gnomon which casts the shadow on the dial plate. The rays, formed of sheared Japanese Boxwood, are precisely spaced to allow the sun's movement across the sky. Each ray is terminated by a conical sheared Eugenia. The rays mark each hour as read from right to left - 8 am to 5 pm. The background or "dial plate" is planted of colorful annuals which are rotated four times a year to reflect the changing seasons."
