During WWII, Royal Canadian Air Force Station Winnipeg was a major part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan which trained more than 130,000 at various locations across Canada.
After the war, RCAF Stn Wpg trained over 5,000 aircrew from foreign countries.
As of Apr. 1, 1993, Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg once again became home to 17 Wing.
This base is now one of the country's largest, employing over 3,600 (which includes 700 local civilians).
