Herbert Henry Asquith (see also this Wikipedia entry) was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1908 to 1916. He was a Liberal, and under his prime ministership many important reforms were enacted, such as pensions for senior citizens, and the Parliament Act, which curtailed the ability of the House of Lords to veto or delay legislation. He was PM for the first two years of the First World War, after which he was replaced by David Lloyd George.
