This siren is mounted on the roof of the old school house of Lehde in the German
Spreewald. It is next to the
fire brigade building, which explains the location.
Today, the siren is used in case of fires, floods and other emergencies, but like all sirens on old German buildings it is safe to assume that it was also used during the air raids of World War II and later in the Cold War. The author grew up not too far from this area and vividly remembers the siren test runs in the 1950s and 60s; every Saturday at noon.
