The library collects and preserved materials documenting the history of Dallas and Dallas County. It maintains over fifteen thousand books, ten thousand photographs, and three million archival items, including Sam Houston's handwritten account of the battle of San Jacinto.
The library was a gift from The Dallas Morning News - WFAA Foundation in 1989.
Admission is free, by appointment only because of limited staff.
