Produced for use in WW I by the Watervliet Arsenal in 1915. This 4.7 inch gun could deliver a 60lb projectile 7260 meters or 4.5 miles. It could loft a 45lb shell 8750 meters or 5.5 miles. Soldiers in the field learned to increase this range to about 10,000 meters, or well over 6 miles, by depressing the trail into a hole prepared for it.
I found most of this information in Benedict Crowell's 1919, "America's Munitions" p72.
