A ladies' society organized in 1887 brought the first library to Union City. In 1902, the organization was formally incorporated. They requested and received a Carnegie grant to build a library in a park setting on North Columbia Street. The building has been renovated several times over the years, including the conversion of the basement into a children's area, and the installation of an elevatorette and central air conditioning. The library offers high speed internet access and Thursday afternoon story time.
