Long Description:This is the original arch entrance to the Adams Power Plant, the
world's first hydroelectric power generating station. Electric
power, generated by water turbines to be transmitted over long
distances, all started with the completion of the Adams Station in
1895 at Niagara Falls. Larger, more efficient power plants rendered
the Adams Plant obsolete and it was demolished. The entrance to the
plant was taken down piece by piece and re-erected on this site in
1966 to commemorate the tremendous impact which the generation of
electric power at the Adams Station gave to civilization throughout
the world.
The archway is located on Goat Island within Niagara Falls State
Park. There is no admission fee to enter the park, but depending
upon the time of the day and year, there will be a fee to park your
car.
