When the museum first opened in 1956, it was in a smaller building...but it quickly outgrew it. There are about 75 vehicles, and displays of Indianapolis Racing equipment for timing, etc.
The Marmon "Wasp," which won the inaugural Indianapolis 500 in 1911 is here...on display...along with about 30 other Indianapolis 500-winning cars. Other cars displayed are classics, like Duesenbergs, Ferraris, Corvettes and more. Even if you're not a motorhead, this collection will astound you.
Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for ages 6-15, and children under age 6 are admitted free.
Theme: This is a cultural museum, as it not only shows the history of racing (a culture in itself) it also displays the evolution of the automobile and how it has effected everyone.
