The First Presbyterian Church of Buffalo was the first congregation in Buffalo, established in 1812. While in their third different location, the members decided in 1879 to move into a larger facility. They decided on an area that was growing in population at Symphony Circle, designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.
The first services were held in their new church on December 13, 1891, however the construction was not 100% complete. The 163' church tower was not finished until 1897. Formal dedication ceremonies took place on May 6, 1897. The nearly 1000 seat church was designed by prominent local architects Green & Wicks. William Carson Francis completed the Byzantine decoration of the sanctuary in 1924, which depicts a variety of Christian symbols.
