Built in 1885, the Smeede Hotel is the only 19th century structure that remains in the downtown area of Eugene.

Originally named the Baker Hotel when it was built in 1885, the Smeede Hotel was added to the National Register in 1974. It was called the Hotel Eugene in 1892, the Hotel Smeede in 1907, and was renamed as the Smeede Hotel in 1914.
This Italianate style structure was designed by George H. Park who also designed the Shelton McMurphy Johnson house and the original Lane County Courthouse.
