There's not a lot of information available about the tunnel, from what I could find out it was originally a mine adit for the nearby Gobbett Mine, then when Venford Reservoir was built in 1929 a pipe line was laid from the River Swincombe to the reservoir using the tunnel. The notice on the door says the keys are at Venford Reservoir.
