Long Description:
Federal courthouse built 1935-37 at a cost of approximately $1,864,000. The courthouse was designed by architect Ralph Cameron. The building was renamed the Hipolito F. Garcia Federal Building and United States Courthouse in 2004 in honor of a former US. District Court Judge. The building is located on what was a portion of the Alamo battlefield.

Hipolito Frank Garcia (12/4/1925 - 1/19/2002) was born in San Antonio. After serving in World War II he went to college and then law school. He first worked for several years an assistant district attorney in Bexar County and then went in to private practice. Later he became a judge at a couple different levels. In 1980 he was appointed as a judge for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas by President Carter. He was first Mexican-American to hold a seat in the Western District. He was a well respected judge.
